Surfite is the by product of surfboard making. These beautiful, colorful, layers of excess resin, pool onto a tray under the board and harden during the glassing process, eventually this runoff needs to be removed and discarded. Like most waste, it up until recently, ended up in the landfills. My husband purchased some surfite a few years back and has since made earrings and necklaces from assorted pieces and templates. We love the product, and our customers love how light and airy this jewelry is. We love creating unique pieces and sets to wear.
What I love most about Surfite, is that we have taken essentially "waste" and created a sustainable product, that can be worn and that is something we are very proud of.
Here is a set of heart shaped surfite earrings with its matching necklace. What you don't see in this photo is the transparency in many areas of the earrings as well as the necklace. However, I will point out that you can see the woven fabric thru many of the transparent areas in these pieces.
